Ethan McIlhargey, a 2012 graduate of Kuna High School, is now making his mark as a college basketball coach at the University of Texas at Arlington. After high school, Ethan attended a 4-year university, earning his bachelor’s degree, and began his coaching journey as a student assistant for the University of Idaho women’s basketball team.
Ethan’s career path was inspired by his desire to teach, mentor, and help others achieve their goals. His experiences as a student-athlete, along with guidance from the coaches and mentors who shaped him, motivated him to give back to the next generation of athletes.
For Ethan, coaching is deeply rewarding. He says, “Helping young women achieve their dreams and pushing them to be the best they can be—even when they don’t think it’s possible—is incredibly fulfilling.” He attributes his success to networking, kindness, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Reflecting on his time at KHS, Ethan fondly remembers playing sports, participating in student council, and building lifelong friendships with fellow students and teachers. He carries those experiences forward, along with the motto he lives by: “You win in life with people.” – Pat Summitt.
Outside of coaching, Ethan enjoys golf, tennis, and pickleball, staying active and engaged in sports beyond the court. For current students planning their futures, his advice is simple yet powerful: “Don’t wait for life to get easier; learn to handle hard better.”
