Kariessa (Rosenlund) Welch – Class of 2014

Current Role: Family Nurse Practitioner at a family practice office

Kariessa Welch’s passion for healthcare started early, inspired by family members who worked in the field. A career day assignment in 7th grade—where she researched nurses and nurse practitioners—sparked her interest and set her on a path she has never strayed from.
After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from BYU–Idaho, Kariessa worked in a hospital setting before pursuing her Master of Science in Nursing at Chamberlain University, where she became a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Her journey was also shaped by experiences working in her dad’s chiropractic office during high school and as a caregiver in an assisted living facility during nursing school. These experiences gave her hands-on exposure to patient care and solidified her commitment to helping others.

Now, Kariessa provides care to patients of all ages, supporting them in staying healthy and recovering from illness. She finds her work most rewarding when she can make a difference in someone’s life—whether through treatment, education, or simply being a source of support.
Advice to students: Stay curious and open-minded. Explore opportunities through work, volunteering, or shadowing—every experience teaches something valuable. Don’t be afraid to work hard and step outside your comfort zone.
Kariessa credits her discipline, organization, willingness to learn, and compassion as key habits that have helped her succeed. One of her biggest challenges was working full-time as a nurse during COVID while also pursuing her master’s degree. She navigated this by staying disciplined, leaning on her support system, and focusing on the bigger goal, learning resilience and time management along the way.

Some of her favorite memories from Kuna High School include choir, homecoming skits, and football games, where she enjoyed connecting with friends, showcasing creativity, and celebrating school spirit. Outside of work, Kariessa loves playing piano, baking (especially sourdough!), and exploring the Arizona desert and mountains with her husband through camping and off-roading adventures.

Motto: “Progress, not perfection.”
