Baylie Bunn (Smith), a 2011 graduate, is now a School Counselor in the Nampa School District—and her journey is a great example of how interests can grow into a meaningful career.
Baylie earned her undergraduate degree from Washington State University, where she majored in Psychology with minors in Human Development and Business Administration. She chose WSU for its strong sense of community, vibrant campus life, and opportunities to grow both academically and socially. From football games to Greek life, she loved the full college experience—Go Cougs!
After college, Baylie continued her education, earning a Master of Arts in Counseling and becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. While exploring careers in psychology, she felt drawn to school counseling because of its mission to support students’ mental health and well-being. She wanted to be part of improving systems so counselors could focus on what matters most—students.
Today, Baylie says the most rewarding part of her job is building relationships with students and making a real difference in their lives. She credits strong organization skills, empathy, and time management for her success, especially during the transition from high school to college.
Advice for students:
“If you don’t know what you want yet, that’s okay. Learn new things. Change your mind. Once you do know—don’t settle. Make it happen.”
Outside of work, Baylie enjoys reading, working out, and painting—and she believes that everything happens for a reason.
