If you believe you may be a candidate for Valedictorian or Salutatorian, you must submit the attached documentation packet. The packet outlines all required documents that must be submitted in order to be considered. Please note that only the documents included with the packet will be reviewed.
We do not always automatically receive all information used in the selection process (such as updated test scores or dual credit coursework). Because of this, it is the student’s responsibility to gather and submit all required documentation with the packet by the due date.
Please note, that the rubric has not changed—only the process has been updated to ensure we have complete and accurate information for each candidate.
All packets and supporting documents are due by March 1. Late packets or documents will not be considered.
Packets should be submitted to the registrar in the Counseling Office.

Corbin Black, a 2019 graduate, took a hands-on, career-focused path after high school—one that combined technical training, direct workforce experience, and community involvement.
After graduating, Corbin pursued technical and trade training, earning certifications in welding and automotive technology with the goal of entering the workforce quickly. He started his career as a sales representative for a small company, where he built strong communication and relationship-building skills. Through hard work and persistence, he worked his way into his current role at Stein Beverage Distribution as a Sales Representative and Reset Specialist, while also serving as an assistant wrestling coach at Centennial High School.
Corbin credits much of his success to learning how to talk to people, build trust, and form meaningful professional relationships. What he enjoys most about his work is meeting new people every day and creating connections based on honesty, respect, and knowledge.
Advice for students:
“Never give up—but don’t stay stuck in something you don’t enjoy. Find something that doesn’t feel like work.”
Corbin emphasizes the importance of being friendly, respectful, attentive, and compassionate, reminding students that you never know what someone else might be going through. He also shares that he experienced two layoffs early in his career—challenging moments that taught him resilience and the value of always striving to do your best, no matter where you are.
While his career isn’t directly in automotive technology, Corbin still uses those skills in his personal life. Outside of work, he enjoys racing cars at Meridian Speedway during the summer, turning his technical training into a passion-filled hobby.
He lives by the motto:
“Let the past be the past, let tomorrow be tomorrow—always focus on today.”
