Dear KHS/SFHS Families,
With parent-teacher conferences just around the corner on October 22nd, 4- 7 p.m., please take a few minutes this week to check your student’s current grades. These conferences are an excellent opportunity to connect with our teachers, discuss your student's progress, and work together to support their success.
As a quick reminder, there is no school tomorrow.
Best regards,

Mr. Kim brings an extraordinarily rich, global perspective and unstoppable enthusiasm to the Kuna High English department! Raised in Ohio, his journey into education is nothing short of inspiring. After completing college and briefly pursuing a career in filmmaking in Los Angeles, he discovered his true calling in the classroom—a pivotal turn that marked the start of a remarkable teaching journey.
In 2012, Mr. Kim took his passion for education across the globe to Seoul, South Korea, where he spent years inspiring students and met his wife. In 2019, they made Idaho their home, and Kuna High School has been exceptionally fortunate to have him ever since. Now in his sixth year at KHS, Mr. Kim’s energy, dedication, and genuine love for his craft shine through in every lesson, making him a absolute favorite among students and staff alike as he loves every single second of teaching!

In Creative Writing, budding writers learned how and why to use the Show Don't Tell rule in their stories with a specific focus on character development. Micaella Soriano, Alivia James and Tyler Stinson presented how they used the Show Don't Tell strategy in their individual stories. Sophomores are finishing Antigone! Seniors are reading Hamlet Act I and translating some of the speeches and dialogue into modern English. Alexis Bullen and Alexander Toothman work on advice from Polonius,. Nirvana explains that one should never borrow or lend money because you will learn bad spending habits. Parker Anson and Gabriel Garcia act like a Ghost and his son. Owen Wise i dressed in black just like Hamlet as he translates Hamlet's opening soliloquy.

Ms. Martinez is a passionate Spanish teacher who truly loves seeing her students learn and grow and loves teaching Spanish 1 and Spanish 2. She enjoys seeing her students learn, grow, and become more confident in their Spanish skills. She works hard to create a positive and welcoming classroom where students feel comfortable learning and making mistakes. Ms Martinez brings energy and enthusiasm to her classroom every day. She is always looking for fun and engaging ways to help her students understand and remember what they are learning. What she loves most about teaching is watching her students grow, not only in their Spanish abilities, but also in their confidence and knowledge. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, students in Spanish1 and Spanish 2 engaged in creative research projects to explore culture. Spanish 1 students randomly selected a Spanish-speaking country and thoroughly researched its unique traditional foods, weather, climate, capital city, and famous landmarks. After c compiling their research, the class participated in an interactive gallery walk, moving around the room to view each other's displays and record key facts about each featured c country. Meanwhile, Spanish 2 students will build detailed digital slideshow presentations higlighting the lives and achievements of influential Hispanic figures.

Mr. Stachowicz has been teaching here at Kuna High School for eleven years. Before that he taught at Bruneau - Grand View Jr/Sr High. He came to education in his mid to late thirties from the Computer Industry. Mr. Stachowicz teaches Computer Hardware and Computer Software. This year he is teaching both computer hardware and software. In Computer Support Essentials 2 and 3 (hardware) he is teaching the class how to establish a standard operating policy while they assist in the repair of the schools Chromebooks. In his software development classes, Programming Fundamentals the class is learning the beginnings of programming, in Computer Science Principles 1 the class is working their way through learning the Python programming language to build their own computer game next semester, and in Computer Science Principles 2 the class is learning Java. All of the programming courses are dual credit with the different colleges in the area. Stack encourages his students to express themselves through their programming. Outside the classroom he uses his skills in helping his daughter mod her computer games, paint miniatures and models, and write.

Students in Mr. Stach's class are working together to fix damaged school Chromebooks and develop their skills in fixing computers from the community. He also has students working on completing programming assignments together. They are learn that no one person builds computer programs alone.

The FFA Range team and Soil and Land Evaluation team experienced smashing success this Tuesday and Wednesday. During their competition on Tuesday, the Range team took home first place team in the state and will be traveling to Nationals in Utah in November. Brayden Tellez placed as the 2nd individual, Spencer Hardy placed as the 5th individual, Jarron Knowles placed as the 7th individual, Paisley Nelson placed as the 10th individual, and Lachlan Simper placed as the 14th individual. The Range team determines the usability for grazing in a field, does site evaluation to determine if the animals will benefit from grazing on that piece of land, they do plant identification, and they determine grass utilization on a piece of land for other grazing purposes. Outstanding job Range team!
Our Soils team did an amazing job as well, placing 8th as a team. Troy Edwards, Annie Young, Ellie Fuhriman, Emily Conway, and Chrissy Babcock did a wonderful job texturing the soil, determining the slope of a field, determining whether or not houses or businesses could be built and that land, and they evaluated what nutrients need to go into the soil to benefit the plants grown there. Great job to all who participated and represented Kuna!

Our High School BBQ team was a force this weekend! Students took home the Reserve Grand Champion title at the Potato Days BBQ battle on October 3rd. Led by Jacob Widman as team Pit Master, this was Jacob's second BBQ competition! Patrick Kern, TJ Price, and Jacob Nulle were boots on the ground and performed flawlessly, with the whole team functioning as an actual production kitchen. These students took 3rd in Chicken Wings, 3rd in Beef, and 5th in People's Choice Potatoes. With those scores, the students took home 2nd place overall, earning them the Reserve Grand Champion title of Potato Days. We did not place in the top 3 with ribs but we are on track to bringing home a trophy for ribs. This is a big deal for these students as they are not competing against other High Schools, but they are competing against adult teams that have years of experience. Awesome that the team that our students shadowed at the Meat and Taters competition took Grand Champion and Kuna High School took Reserve Grand Champion attached is the Oak and Iron team with our Kuna Smokers.

To celebrate National School Custodial Day, the AVID 9 class walked the perimeter of SFHS and parking lots to help assist our amazing custodial staff. The kids enjoyed the sunshine and helping where they could picking up garbage along the way!
